This morning I went snorkeling at Black Point, an area just down the beach from us but still on Ka'anapali Beach. I found that if while your head is underwater and you hold your breath so your ears aren’t filled with the sound of your own breathing, you can hear Whale Song!

There are 3 points where the beach juts out into the ocean here.
The lower one is Black Point.
The middle one is where the Maui Marriott is located.

I also stopped in the Whaler's Museum and learned about the history of whaling in the Pacific Ocean. It’s a rather sad place in that you see all the implements used to kill and dissect the whales. You also learn about the living conditions of the men who went on these voyages. Twenty men living in a small room without clean facilities for 3 years was the standard.

In the afternoon, we went swimming in the Maui Marriott pool and played on the super slide! I bought a small gold ring of plumeria with diamonds and emeralds for Steven and I even managed to bring him a lei of tuberose of his own. That morning when I was packing I asked Dottie if she would mind if I took the packet of Kona coffee that the Marriott provides for their guests and she said to go ahead. Kona is grown right on the island. As I was buying the lei, she bought a pound of Kona coffee herself. Little did I know that as we were at dinner before I got on the plane to leave, she slipped the pound of coffee into my luggage.

I did learn a couple of words in Hawaiian too. There is Aloha of course but it isn’t Hello. It means Love and is used as a greeting and a general response to people saying thank you which is Mahalo. Never in a million years will I be able to thank Dottie and Michael enough for the gift of this trip. Good friends are hard to find, hold on to them with everything you have.

Aloha
&
Mahalo
