Subject : [MRFfriends] Proud of Festival!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Approximately 14 years ago I ventured to the Twin Cites for the first time. I came here to be a part of the Twin Cities Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Pride Parade as a representative from Iowa. To say that I was blown away is an understatement of the highest measure. In Des Moines, IA, Pride is more of a political event. In the Twin Cities, Pride is a festival and an experience marked by joy, hope, and the love of life and self. I began looking for a way to move here almost immediately. The GLBT Pride Celebration is the reason I moved to the Twin Cities. Of course it didn't hurt that I had just previously met Steven, the man of my dreams and my soulmate, and that he also lived here. (I later realized that our first date occured during my second trip to the GLBT Pride/Twin Cities.) |
Last year, Mid-America decided to have a contingency in the GLBT Pride Parade, the largest parade in the Midwest. I gleefully represented the MRF in the Pride Parade, approximately my 8th time to be in that parade. However it was the first time I could boldly walk down the street for MRF, holding the hand of my partner who I will celebrate 12 years with in September at the MRF. Today I downloaded the 2004 Pride Guide, the "official" publication of the GLBT Pride/Twin Cities (http://www.tcpride.org). Imagine my surprise to find that Mid-America has placed a 1/4 page ad in the Pride Guide! I'm all verklempt! Today for me, the celebration of Pride has been extended just a little more. On June 27th, the MRF will again be represented in the TC GLBT Pride Parade. I hope that you will all join Steven and me as we walk with Pride as a member of the village of the MN Renaissance Festival. Robert W. Schug |

Hi Lovies, If you read my last message about GLBT Pride, you will remember how much it means to me. Upon further reflection, I realized that there is another reason for me to love Pride. I actually had my first date with Steven at the Twin Cities GLBT Pride when I came my second time!
So, in addition to Mary's information about the Pride Parade I wanted to stress one thing. The new Twin Cities Light Rail opens this Saturday, June 26. From their web site you can read "All rides - on buses and trains - will be free on Saturday, June 26 and again on Sunday, June 27." http://www.metrocouncil.org/transit/grandopening/Grand-OpeningInfo.htm
In Downtown Minneapolis, the Light Rail runs on 5th Street and the parade line up starts at Hennepin Ave and 3rd St. running East on 3rd. That means you can get within two blocks of the lineup for the parade by simply riding the new Light Rail. What could be better?
The TC GLBT Pride Ends at Loring Park. I'll be there all day Sunday (and Saturday) with a stupid smile on my face! :-)
We'd love to see each and everyone of you there!
