Brian Gadell, Front Gate I began my first year as a participant after graduating from the 1995 Academy Class. During, the first three years I held an entertainment contract as well as working the Front Gate. Even though I'm usually clad in Scottish Nobility (read "Nancy Boy") garb, I'M NOT SCOTTISH! I just went to a Scottish college, and it kind of stuck. My third year [1997] I had the great fortune of being a part of the City Militia, but then I moved to Boston in the fall of 1998. (Initially my plan had been to return each Labor Day weekend until everyone I wanted to visit had given up the Festival Life. The only problem was that every year I visited, I met new folks that I really looked forward to seeing again the next year.) Late in the summer of 2001, I moved back to the Twin Cities, and when I visited during first weekend, I had a contract before I got past the gate. ("I don't know what happened. Todd talked fancy to me and suddenly my name was on a contract!") In real life, I like to build stuff, whether it be with wood, fabric, space, words, or computers (the latter being how I've been making my living for the last so many years). |

Chrystal Galezewski, Puppet Troupe and
gypsy Rose the Gypsy The 2008 year will be my first year being a part of festival! I am really
excited because I've wanted to be in it since I started going when I was
three. I am still kind of working on my character but me and my fiance
will work as a team and intertwine our characters. You can see us wandering
the streets doing something fest like. |

John J. Geisler, Playtron Sir John Boyd I have been attending the MN Renaissance Festival since 1981, multiple times each year. I started attending in full costume in about 1985 and as my current character since 1988. My current characters costume consists of head-to-toe black leather with knee-high boots, leather pants, Artemis Leather vest, Excaliber hat with plums, etc and a real swept hilt rapier. I am not under contract but have been good friends with a lot of the different vendors, many of the same ones that have been there since the beginning. I have even visited a number of them in Bristol. I am fairly well known around the fest. September 5, 1987 I was married at the MN Renaissance Festival in what I was told was the largest, most elaborate wedding held at the festival at that time. We were wed as visiting Prince and Princess, complete with her father as visiting King. Part of the Royal Court for the day, etc. Currently divorced. |

Karen George, Playtron Lady Margaret Stuart I have been attending MNRF since 1987. The last three years I have been
attending in costume. I make own costumes, as well as the ones my husband
wears. My persona is inspired by my husband's ancestor. |
Pat George, Playtron
Have been attending the MRF since 1987 or so, the past three years as
a playtron. Thinking of joining SCA (ohhhh...noooo). I'm just a simple
woodworker from Amsterdam. My last commission was for 300 barrels to hold
wine for Margaretha of Parma, but try as I might the barrels still leak
a bit while in transit to the Java islands. King Phillip was not impressed.
Thus my name, branded on my forehead no less (the reason for the funny
hat). I tried to explain that they were great for short term storage of
beer and whiskey(very short term). Why ya don't even need a tap,
my lord!" |

Kathy Gfeller,
Street Twig Oaklyn Flewinia Thistlebottom Like many, I got my start in 1997 as a playtron. I finally got around to working Festival in 2002 with a flock of fairies called the Fairy Court. It was an amazing experience that I learned a great deal from. One, I loved seeing children's faces light up when they were given fairy tokens. Two, I hate hoop skirts and though the cleavage was nice for a change, I desperately dislike being tightly bound into bodices. With the Fairy Court disbanded in 2003, I decided to try something new.
Twig was born out of my desire to portray what I thought a real fairy
might be, and of what I always wanted to meet as a child. She is a contradiction
innocent yet mischievous, bashful yet gregarious, full of music yet silent,
etc . . . Each day I am astounded by the magic of shining eyes that believe,
and tiny hands that refuse to let go of glittering stones. Looking back,
this might never have happened if I hadn't bought that chainmail bikini
top in high school. |

Angela Giddings, Shop Worker I started working at Fest in 1998 in the kitchens of CKC. Now I've worked
myself up through JC's beer booth to drum sales. All the while belly dancing
to my own beat! Look for me at drum jam, parade jam, or anywhere I find
any kind of beat. Rain beating on the shed works for me!! |

Patrick Giese, Former Festie ~ Royal Court - 1977?-1982, 1986-1990 Geez, so much history, so little space... I started with a college chum of mine back then, after patroning and volunteering at the Pilgrim's booth in '76. We threw together a body/Royal guard act to audition and got into the Royal Court during Karen's tenure as Queen. The following year we returned as Italian Dukes - old hunting buddies of the King. Gordie and I went our separate ways, but I stayed on with MRF and the Court. In 1982 I took a four-year hiatus in Indiana and as the development Director helped start a little RenFest for Old Indiana Theme Park. Returning in '86, I picked with the Court again, replete with new faces, and of course another new Queen! I took on the roll of the King's sotted younger brother, back home from France to beg for another year's allowance through my retirement in 1990. Kelle and I were wed, we had a son then a daughter, and then like the Gulf Stream, the material world drew us away from our haunts in Shakopee to our residence in Columbus, Ohio. Greetings! to my old brother founders of the Garter, and a hearty well-done! to our fellow Garters. |

Matt Gilbertson,
Street ~ Peasant Matafana I joined in 2004 under the direction of Gary Parker. My character's full
name is Matafana (pronounced Matte-for-now) or Matte for short. In 2005
I adopted a giant spoon as Matte's prop. He can be found spooning around
the kingdom. As the season progressed Matte soon became known as Spoon
Guy. But if you ask the thieves or gate crew I am "Spicy Buffalo."
I dont know Ask the thieves. As well as working in the street I can be
found as an unofficial Baker on Bakery Stage and hauling gear for the
Dew Drops. |
Rob Gilbertson, Former Festie ~ Patron
of the Peacock Playerss Lord Jestus Whip, thief to the pompus, unstuffer of shirts, the silly man 1999 was my first year as a performer at the festival and what a year it was! I have Donna Cunningham (Nana) to thank for the opportunity to become Lord Jestus Whip, thief to the pompous, unstuffer of shirts. I have been going to festival since the very first year it opened, at that time my sister was the manager of Malkerson's stables and one of the first to ride there in costume, so my history does go back a bit ( I hate when I date myself like that ) I was allowed the fun of working with the Childrens Trilogy of Games (thanks Don and Tabby) I was also allowed to work closely with the musketeers as one of the head marshallers (thanks guys). When not working at either of these locations you can find me wandering all over site looking for patrons that are looking for one of us to play with!! I would like to take a moment to express a Huge thank you to all of you that helped make my first year at fest one of the most memorable experiences in my life and I hope to have many more. So to you all (you know who you are) THANK YOU!!! |

Dave Gilles, Jousting Track Sir Peanut I started working fest in '98. Scott (Scorpio) from track got me a job pouring beer for the Jaycees, then. The following year, he nearly pushed me through the door to audition for Academy. I passed and made my way to becoming an entertainer on the New Market Racetrack. My happy-go-lucky character can be see running around, cracking jokes and taunting the crowds to yell at the knights, and each other. (If you want to know how I got the name Peanut, come to track, and find out. It's hilarious) |

John Gladman, Musician ~ Reve
du Faun I joined the show after a very bad audition, by being hired to work the stocks. Although I came to dislike the job, I met one of the best friends a guy could have, the illustrious Joe Smith. Joe was ready to quit the stocks as well and was hanging out with Shaun Gafney and Jeff Nordin who were starting Clan Tartan. It sounded fun, so I joined up. Thus was born Iain McKay the worst solider on the planet. A mix of Hawkeye Pierce and Steve McQueen in 'the Great escape' which Iain was always trying to do, somewhat regretting the joining of a military outfit. After several years of clan activity, I was approached by John Sjogren and asked to play bass for his band, Bedlam. I of course said yes and played for many years with bedlam and another band the short lived, ill fated Dunkeld Kirk. At about the 12 year mark, I needed a vacation and took off 1 year. I returned a couple of weekends to play with friends but that was about it. The following 2 years I spent with crafter Dian! a Corwin (the Knotty Lady) who helped influence my jewelry art. I returned to "the Musician's life" wit a one season gig with Reve du Faun. And finally I hooked up with James Swanson and Peffa to recreate a bit we used to do for closing gate which was "Prince Hal and the Halitosis" where we played parody songs of our own writing. This quickly evolved into "Kings Schilling" and a more serious song writing attitude. "Kings Schilling" became more than we had hoped and we wish to return pending contract talks. Well, that's all folks! Peace-n-Love to all JGG/LKM |
