David P. Eckenrode, Court Revelers
Percival B. Drake (sometimes hailed as Keebler)

Being the shy retiring type, I found release in the theatre when just a lad in junior high in Maryland. In 1973, I found myself in the Hopkins Lindbergh High School theatre under the direction on John Ondov where we performed Storybook Theatre for the fall production. The then King of the festival came to a performance and we were invited to join him the following fall. We built the Tree Top Stage and performed Storybook Theatre that year. My main role was Tom Tit Tot (a version of Rumplestiltskin, but a large black rat!) Yes, I ran around the festival in a padded rat costume for most of the day! In 1975, Tree Top Theatre was formed and other high school aged actors were invited to the troupe; and Carr Hagerman was introduced to the world. A few years later, the troupe was disbanded and I turned to the world of business rather than the arts. However, I stayed on at the high school as a technical director when Willie Lauder took over the program. We both ended back out at the Festival working the track for a few years. Willie stayed on and I returned to the business world and raised a family. After the turn of the century, I craved to return to the stage and started participating as a playtron; there almost every day from 2000-2002. In 2003, Eric Breece (Spew of the Privateers) invited me to join a new group, Ten Seconds of Harmony. I sang briefly with them, but DeCantus needed a full time tenor and rehearsals were the same night. Kicking myself now! However, during that fall, my company asked me to move to England for three years, so my on again off again Festival "career" was off again. However, I did join a choral society while there and enjoyed portraying the Major General in Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. Having returned to the colonies, I once again crave the stage and the Festival. I will be there one way or the other to play with you all.

I have been attending the festival as a guest for the last two years, since my daughter became a CKC worker. I fell in love with the phenomenal costumes and atmosphere and am excited to become more involved in the production of this event!

I auditioned as a musical act in 1996 with my singing partner, Kellie Hultgren (Jennet O'Mora). We performed for three years as "Cailin Ghrian," before deciding on a new name, because too few people know Gaelic. My first character was Cameron Sinclair, a Scottish peasant who loved to fight; In '98 she earned the song "Cameron the Mighty," because of her foolish ways. I had a lot of fun being a helper and an extra with the Chess Match all three years. I'll be back in 1999, debuting a new character, costume, band name, and even a new musical instrument! ;)

In 2009 turned over the booth (Childrens trilogy of games) to missy and Jerry keast and called it a day. My life is every be as adventuresome as it ever has been, its just taking me in new directions.

Anit & Tomas Elke, Playtron

We started going to the festival together in 1997. Anit has been going (with her parents) since 1982. We are both playtrons and you may recognize us. We both wear black and green, Tomas is a redhead, and we are there (nearly) every day the festival is open. We enjoy interacting with both cast and patrons and spending a lot of money at the shops.

Brenda Ellis-Reedy, King of the Log

After working for something like 15 years slinging beer at Fest, I've finally hung up the beer stein. My new "home" for, hopefully, a long time to come is going to be King of the Log, slinging pillows instead of suds!! My husband and I adopted our two wonderful kids in November 2006 and felt that we needed a more family friendly venue in which we could work alongside our newest family members. Yes, we brought them out to Fest for the first time last year and they became as enamored with it as we were so we felt that it would be fun and exciting to have a place we could play together!! In "real" life, I work with emotionally/behaviorally disordered and learning disabled (EBD/LD) students in a Junior High alternative setting. I also sew simple costumes for both myself and friends (and taught my husband to sew so I don't have to make his too!!).

Corvus Elrod, Street with the occasional burst of Stage
Lord Rene Baron of Grimsby Administrator of Bedlam Friend of the People Feared by His Foes Respected by His Superiors (also know as Ferrius the Treecutter, P'u the Fool)

As a young child Corvus would often stare at the stars and wonder about the origins of life, the meaning of the universe, the possibilities of extraterrestrial visitors and where the next peanut butter and jelly sandwich would come from. As a young man, Corvus would often stare at nothing in particular and wonder what day of the week it was, whether he could get a date for the weekend, how many toys and packs of cigarettes he smuggle out of shops under his coat, and where the next bottle of tequila would come from. As an adult, Corvus often stares at computer screens for hours on end wondering why that text won't line up right, whether or not someone will notice if he doesn't resurface for a few days, how much of his next paycheck he'll be able to spend on computer gadgets and where the energy to do yet another season of Festival is going to come from.

Patty Elsen, Royal Court
Lady Patricia Higgins, Baronness Hammermoor

I,Patty Elsen, along with my friend, Mark Lakowske, have been a playtron of MRF for several years now...in various personas! I started visiting the MRF around 1998,with the local high school theatre group, which I did costuming for. This evolved over time to costuming the queen for another ren fair...and getting to play a role on court as handmaid to the queen! The wonderful friends made there induced Mark and I to come out and play the season at MRF as ! visiting nobility playtrons for the first time in 2003. I have played Lady Patricia Astor, handmaid to Queen Anne, Lady Eleanore Sternwycke, and Lady Mary Seton, Maid of Honor to Mary, Queen of Scots, but will join the MRF Royal Court this season as Lady Patricia Higgins, Baronness Hammermoor, wardrobe mistress to Her Majesty. In a marriage of convenience, I've become attached to Master Oliver Higgins as my much younger spouse and dear friend...and brought his talents to court as the royal tailor. (Master Higgins introduced piccadils into London fashion, and made a tidy fortune for it!) The marriage is nothing serious, however, as I will frequently be seen shopping for a "chamber maid" for Oliver...to serve as a surrogate mother and provide an heir to my title! Of course we do have rather a lengthy list of qualifications...but if interested in applying for this position, please contact me discreetly for a possible interview!!!

Becki Erickson, Terpsichory Dance Troupe
Lady Isabel Janna Innocent

I started working the festival as a four-year-old at the Como cottage where I would show off my hognose snake. My family left the cottage in '89, coming back annually to visit the show as a patron. I started Terpsichory in 2000 when Isabel "the Innocent" was adopted.

Isabel is of noble birth, the daughter of a Duke in England. Her father fell in love with a gypsy who he met in a village much like our own. Isabel's mother (the gypsy) died during child birth. Her father was so devastated after her mother's death that he left town leaving her to live with her grandparent's who tried terribly to remove her mother's wild spirit from her and turn her into a respectable young lady. She studied hard but her passion was found in dance. Noticing this, her grandparent's sent her to Italy at the age of 10 to study under the dance master Isidoro. Isidoro brought her into the troupe as his student and ward.

I can be found frolicking around the village, usually at the Bear and Unicorn stage looking for love in all of the wrong (or at least difficult) places.

Usual I'm dressed as a pretty ragged looking peasant. You'll usually see me with a pile of turkey bones hanging off my belt and other nasty little things I can find to tie on. I started at Fest as a Playtron back in '92 and fell in love with it so much I was working there a couple of years later although at the time I was in college and had to drive 4 or 5 hours to fest each weekend and then back to school again. I started with CKC but have since been promoted as a volunteer at King of the Log. Alas my real job keeps my away for a few weekends here and there I am usually out there pretty much every weekend.

I had come from Ireland to Scotland where I joined a mercenary army and met my good friend Martin MacHannen (Mark Hansen). After a few years of fighting in various wars, Martin and I decided that making music was much more fun than getting killed in battle. We have much fun leading the patrons astray with our music. Some of them I believe are actually capable of leading us further astray than where we already are. The place you will be most likely to find Vagabond is at the shop called Glass Images near the Irish Cottage. Starting at 5:00 or 5:30, we play until the rest of the day catches up with us and we DROP!

For those of you who have been around Fest for a while, I used to be a solo musician and French character by the name of Claude DesCordes and carried a rose with me most of the time. Claude fell madly in love with every lady he met. Claude disappeared after two years and his wicked brother Louis came looking for him. Louis was slightly higher in class than the Rat Catcher. When the returning lady patrons would mistake Louis for Claude, Louis would ask, "Where have you seem my brother? I would like to assist him in lightening some of his load by relieving him of his acquired wealth. He should share with his brother anyway."

For the '90-'94 seasons I was away in South Dakota finishing a Master of Music degree that I started in '95. In the spring of '95 I got together with Mark Hansen and formed Vagabond.
