Jasia, Queen's Gypsy Dancer

Greetings and Felicitations I Jasia, have been attending MRF since 1982, dancing at MRF since 1994,(non gratis), and finally in 2004, I become a 'Real Street Dancer'! :) Beyond the dance, I cast Gypsy spells, assign words of atonement to those in “need.” I am a seeker of lost children, as needed. The most fabulous reward that I have received, is that of the smiles on Patron’s faces and the face of our great and wonderful Royal Majesty, Queen Margaret. das vi'daun ya, Jasia I live to dance and I love the Renaissance.

Desire' MacBrid

I started with MRF back in 1986. I was a Hawker for "Lewdy" Lloyd Walton and eventually traveled the Southern Circuit as his Apprentice in Leather Crafting. Over the years I have worked the Front Gate, cooked for the King's Guard with Bill Lochen, and for the past fifteen years I have been Street. My character is Desire' MacBride. Currently, I portray a Scottish Traveler (Gypsy). My daughter Naomi is a nanny for "Alice", and my daughter Mercedes is "Muck" the mud sculpturess. My youngest three children are still getting their feet wet and figuring-out their people. (my son dreams of being a jouster) Currently, I live in a suburb of St. Paul and I own a tattoo shop in Northfield, MN. I am a Fine Artist, beader, gardener, baker, horse-rider, bellydancer, music-maker, costumer and a gypsy forever!

I joined the cast of the festival 2002. I wanted to work the show ever since I heard about it, but never got around to auditioning for it. When doing a community theater show with some friends, I mentioned my interest to them. I then found out that they were involved and they invited me to join their group. The rest has been a glorious adventure with the Thieves's Den; sneaking and stealing all the way.

Green Man, Jack in the Green

I started with the Morris Dancers in 2001. I danced with them for a few years in “normal” Morris kit but in 2006 I created a costume around the Green Man which is a Pagan character associated with Morris. I ‘retired’ at 55 which suits me just fine!

Mary Ellen Weber, Crown Stage Hawker
Mistress Mellen

1992: First year at MRF, then named Rosemary.
1993: I doubled my efforts and worked in the office, with Bill Lochen, doing ticket sales, and out on site, with Marilyn, doing weddings.
1993-1994: 1st I went to TRF, worked in the Old Fashioned Photos Boothe, then off to Arizona where I met up with Michael Colley of Game Mogels. From there I followed Michael to the Poconos and NJ. I left Pennsylvania, still under Game Mogels, just in time to miss the Tornado that ripped through NJ, lifted our Carousel up out of it's 6 foot post holes and dropped it 10 feet away, only to join the very talented team of Camelot (Is that foreshadowing?). There, I met up with old friends from MN and had a great time running the games and mingling with all that talent, for the whole almost 2 months that it lasted! When Camelot became came-n-when, I left with my souvenirs and trudged back to MN.
1995: I took 1994 off (can you blame me?) but rejoined in 1995 to manage Crown Stage as Mistress Mellen, nurse maid. I finally found my niche, a place I could call home! However, due to my Great Britain adventure, I passed the gauntlet on for 1996, but returned to Assistant Manage in 1997, 1998, and on to the future!!!

The Adventures of Robin Hood
Lady Marian Fitzwalter, Baroness of Arlingford
Character: Lady Marian Fitzwalter is the daughter of the Baron of Arlingford, who, unfortunately, along with her brother, died while fighting in the King's armies. Since she is a cousin to the King, and her mother is infirm, she is allowed to have the title of Baroness in her own, in order to keep her lands and allow her mother to live there. When she marries, and produces a son, her son becomes Baron of Arlingford, and her husband gets the lands as her dowry. However, should Marian die without an heir, the title and lands revert to the crown. This leads to why she has arrived with the Court to the village. She needs a husband!! She WAS betrothed to her true love, the Earl of Loxley. It's REALLY disgusting, how much she loves Robert, very Disney. However, because Daddy Dearest (who approved of the match) is no longer alive, and the King (who ALSO approved the match) is away on Royal Business, Marian's Guardian and the Queen want to find her a more suitable match, 'cause of some nasty family rumor, something about Robert's father or grandfather or something being the Notorious Robin Hood, and that just WOULDN'T DO to have in the Arlingford family!! And, of course, her true love isn't helping the matter by perpetuating the legend within the village!! So, she will spend her time sneaking away from the Court to be with her love, Robin, and avoiding the Queen and her Guardian, and yet, trying to be a lady in all of this!! *sigh* So, if you see her, and don't want an earful about her woes with the Court or Robin, it's best to leave her be. But, she loves children, so please send them her way, they will be her main contact between her and Robin. And feel free to visit her in the Greenwood!!

Personal: I have been participating in the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in various capacities since the tender age of 14 - including Clan Tartan, hawking for the Crown, Witchwood and Robin Hood stages, working in a glass booth, and on street as "wandering nobility". I have also been in the Twin Cities theater community for as long as I can remember, doing plays with Childs Play Theater Company (currently Stages Theater Company in Hopkins), Youth Performance Company, Children's Theater Company, and Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies - Philharmonic Orchestra (I also play the cello). I try to tour other festivals and faires, such as the Scarborough Renaissance Faire as Princess Katherine of Scotland, and rendezvous and events with the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment - the Black Watch, a non-profit group that portrays a company during the French and Indian war. I am also a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, the World Wide Robin Hood Society, and the Marie Stuart Society. I currently live in Downtown Minneapolis with my two kitties, Maurice and Reese's Pieces - an American Shorthair Tabby and a Scottish Fold Calico. I can also be found at my second home, the airport, flying with Pinnacle Airlines/Northwest Airlink as a flight attendant. Slainte!!

Christopher Castlemore - The Earl of Oxford, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Knight of the Garter, and Her Majesty's Champion of the Sword.

I started Festival in 1983 because a friend of mine was doing it, and I thought it might be fun. In 1984, I joined the Mayor's Entourage as "Flemmid Cooper," 14th cousin to the Mayor, removed. There I participated in the Mayor's looniness, and the formation of the "City Guard" -- Yikes! I then went on to join the Royal Court (1986) as Christopher Castlemore, The Earl of Oxford. In court, I started the Most Noble Order of the Garter, in an attempt to provide a living example of chivalry. Occasionally, when the mood strikes, I could show up with bells on -- in a furry of bright colors, musical bells and laughter. But I would have to be a fool to do that... Recently, I have been pursuing the finer art of improvisational Shakespeare as the swaggering, Petruchio -- or, the stay-puff marshmallow man. I never, really, know for sure... Just look for the guy in the yellow.

Heidi Wendling, Supervisor for the Big Bear Travler's Booth.

I started out at the MRF the summer of 1999 working in the Big Bear Travelers Booth as a supervisor. After two years of selling T-shirts and a two-hour commute from La Crosse, Wisconsin I decided to move to the Twin Cities! Now that I am closer to the festival, I have climbed on to a different rung on the CKC ladder: starting in 2001 I can be found across the dirt path in the wine booth. There really isn't a character yet (other than the notorious Wood Nymph/provoker of many a lustful joke). I will still be the shy, yet coyly flirtatious, village girl just trying to make an honest living. It really isn't that much of a stretch.

1998 was my first year as an entertainer at the Renaissance Festival, though I have been attending the RenFest for 10 years with my parents. To get even with them, I dragged them to CKC with me in 1997 and to the auditions and academy in 1998. My character, Persephanie, was the daughter of a merchant in the village. I spent most of my time running with the peasants. I learned how to eat from garbage containers, provided seating services at the privies, and did privy serenades. I also was a "Mushite" and helped to secure his release from the Royal Guard at the Maze. In '99, I will become the ward of the German mercenary Gunther and his wife Lindie. I still expect I will run with the peasants as they are more interesting.

Steve West, Stage Act - Grove Stage & Street
Storyteller

Storyteller made his Renaissance Festival debut in 1996. I began with a non-gridded "stage" in Cartwheel Cove, which was actually a few benches pulled together in front of a big rock. After a few weekends my audiences began to outgrow the area, so a couple of shows per day were gridded at the Bear. (Now, there's a tough stage for a storyteller.) During the next two seasons my shows were gridded at the now defunct Dragon Stage and the Bear. As difficult as the Bear was to work, it did give me very good exposure and helped to give Storyteller name recognition at the fest.

In 1999, the Grove Stage became my "home." I have found it to be a great stage for me and I am perfectly contented there. My main stage act is a story entitled Nobody's King, which is based upon my children's book of the same title. Though humor is involved, I would categorize this animated presentation as "serious" or "dramatic" storytelling. It is a very moving story that has proven to really touch the audience's emotions.

Between shows you'll find me on the streets, where I use other original and recreated traditional stories, limericks, props and puns to play with patrons. I am always more than willing to do improv bits with other characters. So, when you see me on the street, don't hesitate to come and play with me. Just be careful when you approach the waxed mustache, "That Thing Could Take An Eye Out!"

Geoffrey Trapper, Poacher

My very first renaissance experience was in Los Angeles in 1979. The men were pinching the women and the women…aah! I have been a patron of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival since 1980 and a playtron since about 1996. The 2004 run was my first season pass. I enjoyed the 11 days I went and knew I would be able to enjoy every day. 2005 was my rookie year on the street as Geoffrey Trapper, a former trapper of fox for the hunt now out of the job, who does not pay the king’s tax to trap and s! kin the cute mammals of the fields, marshes, and forests (poacher). All of my days at the festival have been wonderful. The festival brings me back to my childhood, running around the farm playing Robin Hood, Tarzan, etc. Now I am able to play again but with a much better backdrop. Perhaps you will find me along a village street inquiring if you would mind me giving your dog a sniff (from the raccoon pelt that is).
