Alicia Wold I joined the festival in 1984 as an entertainer/server at the (then new) Feast of Fantasy. Since then I have worked in almost every area of the festival. I currently call the Hall of Masters home. When I first came to the Festival, I finally felt like I was home and I feel very blessed to have grown into such a large family over the years. It has also been a wonderful place to share with my children, Ananda and Abigail. Thank you to all the great people who are part of their "village." |

Michelle Wold, Terpsichory Dance Troupe This is my first year participating in the Festival [2004] though I have
been a patron since I was young. I'm a student at the University of Minnesota
studying to obtain my Nursing degree. I am also member of the Royal Scottish
Country Dance Society and will be performing with them this season. Mairi
can be found anywhere there is dancing to be had as well as roaming around
with her friend Molly in their unofficial capacity as 'Engineers of the
Mayors' illustrious roadway.' |

Mae Lynn Wolertz, Former Festie ~ Fencing
Booth
I started working at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival as a volunteer with the Fencing Booth in the summer of 1998 and continued to work there until the end of summer of 2000. In the years following that I've occasionally been seen to return to my old stomping grounds to see how everyone is doing. Back when I worked in the booth I would sometimes work on my artwork,
and for those who are curious I continue to do so. Although my website
is often not kept as up to date as it could be anyone who wishes can take
a gander and drop me a line if they wish. |

Jennifer ChinaRose Wolf, Street 1999 CKC I have wanted to work for the MN Ren Fest since the first time I went
there when I was about 10. My aunt became a street character and gave
me tickets for my birthday. For some reason, I thought I was never good
enough to actually work there. Well, this year will be my 7th season and
I have finally got up the nerve to try out for street entertainment. Myself
and a couple friends are working on a bit for us to carry through the
season. Should be interesting. |

Here is me giving it my best shot to paraphrase 11 years of fest. I started festival in 1991, one year earlier than planned btw, when I was studying staged combat with En Garde! Unlimited. I was asked to be a part of one of my very favorite shows, The Robin Hood and Little John show on Gypsy Stage. I had only discovered Renaissance Festival when I moved to the TC in 1989 (You mean there is something past Valleyfair?) Obviously, I was not to learn about this special place until I could actually live here. but I digress.. so I came in as a patron, saw the Chess Game and Robin Hood show and said, Damn! I got to do that. 2.5 years later.. BOOM! Kristin Hawbaker (Harlequina/Ammala Sisters) called my house in Sunday April 4th 1991 (yes I am that specific about the date, see I was at my cabin in WI with my friend Jennifer, who now lives in LA, she's a FABULOUS actress, oh.. now here was I? Oh Yea... and we were talking about how bad I wanted to do fest and how I was so excited for ...never mind, ask me over a beer sometime} and Kristin said "Hey, Wanna be in a show?" I had a small heart attack (called Jennifer with the news) and went out to play with the coolest kids in school and worked my way thru my proficiency test in multiple weapons with the SAFD (Society of American Fight Directors) a few years later while performing in many a Chess Game. Did 2 years with the Robin Hood Show, sang several years with the Court Revelors, did a stint the 25th anniversary year of Festival as a Fop Ex-Wife via Lady Florabunda (who scared me so bad I sent her to the French Riviera never to return.)with one of my best pals, Pamela Ellison (Lady Raina Terra)We were The Few, The Proud, The Chafed-if I ever smell baby wipes again, I'll puke! That was the muddiest year I recall, that costume was ruined in one year. It's hard to be pretty! We were affectionately known as the Baked Potato People that season. Then I went on to form the Essex Wives. 3 women from different countries married to the same Lord Essex, who when finding us all at the same social function, suffered a coronary and died on " Women On The Verge... " but I'm still working out the audience participation part. I'll get back to you all on that. I think Erin will KILL me if I do something else. Things left to accomplish before I can be done with Festival are: 1)to be a lead role in the Chess Game 2)be nominated for Most Improved Veteran 3)getting the Duchess of Diddle to say the "f" word. Did I miss anything else I have done?? Am doing? Oh...and if any one sees my brain, please feed it and send it home. Did I mention I love this sandbox? (see my quote in Meg's novel From the Ashes, which totally kicks ass btw!) I am so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing talent and wonderful people. Several of us were recently at the Scarbourgh Faire in TX and a cast member there said it best, that we are all part of a tribe, which consists of many families and spits who are drawn to festivals all over the country. We have an important job to do in keeping our histories and memories alive as we invite the public to come in and touch the magic that is us and our lives. We are our own Johnny Appleseed's, we must plant the seeds for future generations. I am honored to be among you all. queenvalkyrie@hotmail.com |

Kathie Wright, Street
~ Peasant Widow Kathleen For the past 17 years the MRF has been my home for 7 weekends a year (since 1987). Ive been performing with Mistress Bawd for the past 2 seasons and was part of the Pubkin at Macs Pub before that. King of the Log is where I got my start at the Renfest. We had a great group of people-many of whom have also become entertainers. My favorite weekend at the fest is the Highland Fling because I love strong men in kilts. I also like the Kilt Crossing bit that we [KOL women & I] e! nact for that weekend. As time allows, the Widow is out looking for a new man. |

Jody Wurl, Street I started MRF in 86 as Ellian the Gypsy, a street character and hawker for Gypsy Stage. I then jangled my way to the Witchwood Stage for 87, danced with the act Kumpania in 88, and worked Front Gate in 89. I had a brief interlude of Generic Irish Lassdom when I schilled for Gallowglass in 90. As a result of this season, I know many Celtic songs by heart and will try to sing them in the shower. It confuses my cat. There are Seven Cardinal Virtues. In my 91 and 92 seasons, I played the Virtue Temperance, a manic depressive lush. I had a great deal of fun playing a naughty Catholic Novice/School Girl with the other Virtues and Mother Superior. In 93 I played an Irish bar maid by the name of Mary Xavier Quinn, or Mary X for short. I had never had cleavage before in my Festival career, but even that was not enough to induce me to stay in a corset for the next season. In 94, I went back to the convent and became a Bride of Christ. As a nun, Sister Mary Widow, forced to become a woman of the cloth because of a series of mysterious ends for several husbands, I did my best to survive Mother Superior's superiority through the 94 and 95 seasons. In 96, I started Graduate School, and a job that required weekend shifts, so Sister Mary Widow was a part time indulgence for seasons 96, 97, and 98. I only came out for one brief visit in 99 because of various commitments, but I came back as the Virtue Temperance, with all of the rest of the group. Who knows who I'll be in the next Millennium? All I can say is, don't be afraid to say hello! |

Melissa Wyatt, Shop Worker Hey kids. I'm usually called Missy, and I just returned to fair after a 7 year absence. Went through academy in 1992, worked at Pavillion for three seasons, spent two on street after that. I'm now back working at Catskill Mountain Moccasins and having blast. Other than that, I spend lots of fun time on my motorcycle (it's big and fast and tons of fun). Come visit at the booth!

Christie Wyman, Hall of Masters Christine I Joined the MRF in 2000 with my friend Mike. Together the two of us
work at the Hall of Masters. When I am not tending to the needs of the
hall I will most often be found frolicking with friends, or over playing
with crystal sticks. Last year I won the honor and glory for the most
creative romance wars gift
A can of nibblet corn. ( A long story,
one that most are still laughing at.) |
