Greg Hoffman, Jousting Track Graelen I started working at the MRF around 1995. I started in the fencing booth
and worked there for about 4 years. I took a few years off and have been
a squire on the jousting track for about three years. |

Hillary Hoffman,
MAF Marketing Staff, Joust, Street Lade Anne Sitzwell, Dutchess of Davenport, Sister of Queen Elizabeth I started working at Festival in 2006 as apart of the Mid America Marketing
Staff. Shortly after, I realize the real fun was to be had as a part of
the cast! You can now find me riding riding in a few of the joust shows
and wondering the streets with the Royal Court and my "sister"
Lizzy... I mean Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. And it is Sitzwel because
I sit well, side saddle - That is of course the proper way for a lady
to ride! |

Geoffrey Hofman-Frethem,
Street & Puppet Troupe Geoffrey started going to the MN Renaissance Festival back in 1986! His entire family was in a production of Music Man in Eden Prairie and they went as a group to work the Children's Trilogy of Games booth. For the 10 years that followed he and his family always made it out once or twice a season to work at the Trilogy. Then in 1996 he was invited by Steve Peterson to join the Mayor's Entourage. In 1997, he returned to the Trilogy, but managed to be there the entire run. Finally, in 1998 and every season since, he has been a member of the Puppet Troupe. So the next time you see Geoffrey (as Edmund) take a look at his boots. Then, the next time you see the Wizard or the Hag, (or other Puppets), look for the boots! That's almost the only way to tell.... gfrethem@yahoo.com |

Ken Holmstrom,
Hobbit Volunteer and Tortoise Wrangler for the MN Herpetological Society at Como Cottage; Meriadoc Brandybuck and most recently Bilbo Baggins Yes. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I was known as Drogheda Yoda. I began my Festival life in 1982 as a street performer. I met many new and interesting people one of whom I married, Jody Ellner. Jody was a volunteer with the Como Zoo Docents. The volunteers of the Como Crew I met ! that year are among my oldest and dearest friends. I began creating Drogheda in 1983 with Jody and Eric Wenger and a Viking Ship full of good people. We lost our site to urban development in 1990. My kids spent the first few years of their lives there. A very dear friend died at the hearth of Como Cottage, The building I designed, shortly after wrestling with my daughter at Drogheda, which I built. I missed her by 30 minutes. We left the show for several years and did not return until Brent Wold invited me back a few years ago to demonstrate the Art and Mystery of leather bottle (and Jack) making. In Macs old Thistle Leather Booth of all places. We joined the MHS in 2000 and have gone full circle back to Como Cottage as volunteers. Jody is now the "house Mom", the position she held 25 years earlier when I first met her. Most recently you may have seen Bilbo Baggins about the village. I assumed that roll reluctantly at the end of the 2002 season on the insistence of Johnny Peterson. I have had a great time as Bilbo. |

Sean P. Holt,
Street & Stage Act ~ Cigany
After being a paytron for 6 years I got an opportunity in 2005 to work
for the Nights Safety Services Team
at Festival. I worked another year on nights in 2006 and then moved to
Days in 2007. For the 2008 run I a made the switch and became an informal
member of entertainment assisting Cigany in the Feast of Fantasy shows
and on street. For the 2009 run I have become a full member of Cigany
and will be playing drum for their shows in the Feast. On street I will
be drumming in some of the drum jams that occur throughout the day and
mingling with the paytrons. |

Tanya Horner, Playtron ~ Duchesses
of Doom My first Fest experiance was when I was 14. (1983?) I remember all the beauty, drama and excitement, I was hooked. The next year my mom made me a very lovely, very bad costume.... (it wasn't exactly period) I had been going once a year until 1999, I went several times that season, and the next I bought a season pass... I'm never doing it any other way, ever again! You can usually find me stirring up trouble... I like the Irish Cottage area, but am also partial to the cool shady spots near the Children's Area. Actually, you can find me just about anywhere, i like to wander...

Lisa Horton,
Court Revelers Soren Lindsay I started attending MRF as a patron in 1993 and was immediately hooked (I'm sure many of you had the experience-couldn't bear to walk around site in jeans so bought garb my first day there...). My first year officially working for MRF was 1997 (I even have the official CKC t-shirt to prove it!). I co-ran the 800 ice cart where the Queen's Pub is now. In 1998 I stood on the combat chess board as a non-combatant and really had no other official status that year, so just lurked around generally trying not to get tripped over! In 1999 I joined the shop staff of Gemini Glass (these are terrific people to work for, let me tell you!) half-way thru the run and enjoyed myself so much that I worked the whole run for them in 2000-thanks, Steve and Carol! 2001 was my first year with an official entertainer's pass-I became a Court Reveler, Reviewing Stand Lurker and Princess Minder. My character operates under the name of Soren Lindsay and she is currently in the employment of the Duchess of Somerset. |

Susan Kay Horton, Shop Owner Scrim 2002 Season is my first year as a Shop Owner at MRF. I have been coming to Fest since 1992 as a patron and have always wanted to be a participating part of the action. This year, in partnership with Gail Lofgren, I became owner of Scrim & Gimp (booth #445) selling pillows, wall hangings, throws, runners, tassels, etc (soft cuddly objects of beauty). I am also a harper and harp case builder off-season. |

Ann Hoshal, Street 2002 is the first official year I've been under contract. 2001 I came out and played with the gypsies and loved it. If I am playing Anya, I can definitely be seen hanging around several Dragon's Duel shows, at Villification Tennis, at Parade Jam, and in general roaming the streets in search of some fun to be had. Mad Maude, however, is on a mission. If you cannot see her, just listen, you will hear her ye! lling for, at or to Mush. As soon as I can get her clothes back from whomever seems to love swiping them and frustrating Jen Zalar, she will be out there hunting Mush with a vengeance. And as soon as I can get my house finished and move in, I will be spending a lot more time out and about again. |

Dale Houston,
Former Festie Handsome Pete Dale was with the MN faire for some time, milling about in an intoxicated
stupor, shouting at anyone who got in his way. During the show hours,
though, he played a delightful scamp (read horrific filthy beggar) and
was in touch with at least one of the four elements - fire. A little fire
breathing was all it took to pull Handsome Pete off the street and onto
the stage. Then Dale moved to Boston (where he currently is). On a recent
visit, it was decided that Handsome Pete was going into semi-retirement.
Currently Dale is working on a new character. Soon, my chitlins, soon
you shall meet the Nefarious Johnny Arson. Hold on tight! |

Alexandra Howes, Games Worker ~ Fencing
Booth Lady Alexandra of Galashiels I started festival as a child with my grandmother, Lady Margaret of Galashiels,
who worked near the Hobbit Hole as a storyteller during the 1980s-1990s.
Recently, I've started working the festival as an adult and currently
work at the Fencing Booth (2009). I play a middle class woman from the
Spanish Netherlands (Luxembourg) and am glad to be back at Fest after
living in Japan for a number of years. |

Catherine Huebner, Stage Act Shannon the Shamelexx, The Stinky Gypsy, Perizada the Dancer I started fest in 96 and although I grew up at Scarborough, I consider this festival my home. I was known as Shannon my first year but by year 2, the gypsy bug had bitten me. From 906 to 98 I called Crown Stage my home and played a damn good pawn in the combat chess match. In 99 I directed the Middle Eastern dance company that appeared at MRF. Who knows what 2000 will bring? (Besides yet another new costume.) Though Middle Eastern dance is still my one true love. I have put it on the back burner to focus on the education degree I will (please God) have in the next couple of years. |

Becca J. Hughes, Irish
Cottage 'Tis Margaret Alicia McClure at yewer sairvice, but yew kin call me Maggie! In the mundane day to day world my name is Becca Reed (fka Becca Lurth), but for at least seven weekends a year, Maggie will get my attention far faster than Becca...although, "Mead anyone?", "Nice tights!", (uh, that's tights...T-I-G-H-T-S...tights) "...lovely - my eyes are up here, thank you - cleavage you have there.", and of course, "Oooh sparklies!" and "belly dancers!" , also tend to perk my interest. Those last two really go together rather conveniently. In 1983 I came to visit our fair village and never left. (well, I had to go home over the winter, too cold) I also took a short hiatus to have, and recover from having, twins. I had my third child shortly after the end of the season last year. (darn near during the season, to look at me, but he didn't arrive until November) We'll all be back ! ! ! for this season. I started at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival as a Patron, and over
the years I've been fortunate enough to have worked many different occupations
there. Starting as a minstrel, singing on the grid with a partner, and
then as a Belly Dancer/Gypsy at the Bear show during Parade. I've worked
as a Street character at Front Gate, a hawker at Cartage Stage with the
original Stripy Sailors, and as staff for various shops. I was having
so much fun at MRF I decided to go to the Texas Festival too. For four
years I worked as a singer, an assistant supervisor at the Imported Beer
booth in the Beer Garden/Belly Dancer Stage. Since 1997 I have enjoyed
the opportunity of working at the Irish Cottage, where I love to spend
time doing needlework, sewing, singing, acting, and of course...open fire
cooking. It's a stage I have always been fond of. What a wonderful chance
to marry the elements of music, light-hearted comedy with a bit of living
history and information in a place that seems to have a magic all it's
own. I am an incurable ham, and thankfully my Twins are not only tolerant
of their outspoken mum's tendency to talk funny and play dress up outside
of Halloween, they play along too! With little encouragement they will
render a fine little tune or two, and telling tales comes naturally to
them as well. (imagine that!) |

Barry (Jim) Hughes, Irish
Cottage & Vilification Tennis I be Taffy the Welshman, leader of the Highland Mercernary Regiment. Our Paytron, who shall remain nameless, has want of me and my band, all four of them, to sack this town...and I yet may, as soon as Her Majesty the Queen, with her Royal Guard, be on their way. An' it be until then I needs must be at my leisure, having a fine thirst for a pint and a bit of song, at the Irish Cottage, where Maggie, the Mistress of that house has taken a rather keen fancy unto me. 'Tis not uneasy keeping at the short leash these Scotts that are sure and of need to pillage the village, yet still a burden more than not. No one calls me Barry...except Mother. In the real world I'm Jim, at
Festival I'm just Taffy. I'm an Arkansan that came to Minneapolis by way
of the Marine Corps. A finer Yankee town I don't guess I ever did see!
Y'all er purdy cool up here. 2005 will be my fifth year as a cast member
at the Irish Cottage, where I serve in a constent state of "grovel"
for my lovely wife Becca, the Irish Cottage Stage Manager. It's more fun
than should be allowed by law. I paid to get in here for the first ten
years or so and then someone offered me a job...why I don't know. When
I'm not singing and performing at Cottage, I'm drumming at Parade &
Drum Jam, getting under foot for the occassional Opening Gate crowds,
teaming up with my friend and partner Matt Alex at Vilification Tennis,
or haunting the steps of my twin brother Garry (aka Angus Blair) as he
lurks about street. In the off season I read and re-read Meghan Brunner's
books about Fest, sometimes she even lets me put a drawing or two on her
website, and of course I pine for Hanna Faith... |

happens at fest after hours... Nothing! I run with the Scottish mercs
now in service to SgtMjr Taffy who is currently a hostage at the Irish

(see the work at faire-folk.com). I'm harmless, really... I promise. |

Laura Hughes, Shop Owner ~ The Emerald
Lady, Booth #635
I started Festival in 1988, met my ex-husband there, concieved my daughter
there, and own a shop there. I like to think that I have many good friends
there but, it could be my imagination. I make a mean costume but am notoriously
pokey about it.My sister and brother-in-law own the game shop next to
me and like sisters in real life, we often squabble. My parents are super
cool and are fixtures every day out there. My 14 year old daughter has
! more Rennie friends than I do, some of them are people I have tried
to schmooze for 17 years and sometimes she will put a good word in for
me. I love my Hippie kin and hope to be a part of festival for as long
as the Gods will tolerate my foolishness! PLURaL (Peace, Love, Unity,
Respect and Laughter) Folks. |

Kellie M. Hultgren, DeCantus Jennet O'Mora I started at the Festival in 1996, mainly because Jessica and I both
liked this one Steeleye Span song, and hey, wouldn't it be cool to audition?
We called ourselves "Cailin Ghrian" for three years and then
switched to "Lyonesse" on grounds of pronounceability. I stood
on the Combat Chessboard as an extra for five seasons. In 2003, my 8th
season, I joined DeCantus, purveyors of folksong and madrigal to the masses.

Bailey Humphries-Graff, Shop Worker ~
La Jeanne Runnels and the 500 area commissary for CKC.
I started out being a tag along at the fest with my dad back in 2001.
You could find me by the Gypsy stage in the games area telling the Hercules
stories and creating mischief. I now spend time either with my Dad, Mark
Graff, by La Jeanne's, or with my Mom in 500. I have made many friends
through the years. I also spend time with helping out at the Irish Cottage
or other places onsite. I really enjoy being at fest and hope it's around
for a long time. |

Dustin Hurley, Shakopee Jaycees
Pubmaster of Macs Pub Kegs - Pirate I started fest in 2002 working as a beer slinger at most of the pubs.
In 2003 I found my home at Macs Pub as a 2nd Pubmaster. From that
point on I gave all the musical acts good atmosphere and witty banter.
In 2005 I became the Pubmaster of Macs. If not found in the pub
can be found on the side of the pub in Pirates Cove. |
