![]() In Memory of Lee Walker |
Dear Friends and Associates of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Many of you reading this letter knew Lee Walker well; others may have been only an acquaintance. I want to thank you for taking a few minutes to read this letter and letting me inform you that a scholarship endowment fund in memory of Lee is in place at Gustavus Adolphus College. It's been nearly two years since my husband, the inimitable and wonderful Lee Walker, passed away. Through the generous gifts and memorials given in Lee's name over the last 18-plus months, a scholarship endowment fund has been established in his name. Throughout Lee's life his love for theatre and music, and even more importantly his passion for helping young actors enter into the world of theatre and entertainment, never diminished. I've included an extraction from the scholarship background and purpose that encompasses both Lee and the scholarship intent: |

"Lee Walker graduated with the Gustavus class of 1975 and while completing his M.F.A. at the University of Minnesota, he met his wife Laurie. Lee worked at his craft as a musician and actor until his death in December 2002, performing enduring roles on stage and in television, radio and film. During his tenure as artistic director for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Lee found his love for mentoring, teaching and encouraging younger actors. Laurie established this scholarship in Lee's memory to support students in theatre and music at the place where he developed the foundation for his career in performing arts. The purpose of the Scholarship Endowment Fund is to provide encouragement to young men and women who desire a Gustavus education. It is the intent of the donor that the Lee and Laurie Walker Scholarship be awarded to students for whom financial aid is essential in order to permit them to attend Gustavus, with preference for students studying in or involved with theater and/or music." |
As you make decisions about your giving to charitable organizations, the family of Lee Walker invites you to consider a gift to help grow this scholarship fund, extending its reach and keeping Lee's "mentoring" of young actors and entertainers alive. Gifts for this scholarship fund should be made payable to "Gustavus
Adolphus College" and include the notation "Lee and Laurie Walker
Endowed Scholarship Fund" on the memo line or in an accompanying
letter. Your gifts can be sent to: Thank you again for taking time and your consideration of this scholarship. Sincerely, Laurie Walker and Family |
